Luego de una lucha de dos años y medio, los inquilinos del edificio de la 3121 de la Mt. Pleasant cantaron victoria y hoy ya son los nuevos propietarios del inmueble.
El miércoles 25, en la víspera del Día de Acción de Gracias, la mayoría de los 80 nuevos propietarios se reunieron para celebrar el logro.
After a struggle of 2 years and a half years, the tenants of the build at 3121 Mt. Pleasant sang of victory and today now are the owners of the building. On Wednesday, the 25th, on the day before Thanksgiving, the majority of the 80 new owners reunite to celebrate their achievement.
Gracias a la ayuda de CARECEN, al financiamiento del gobierno del Distrito de Columbia y a una voluntad a toda prueba, los ex arrendatarios pudieron conseguir el millón 750 mil dólares que costó el inmueble. La cooperativa tiene 40 años para pagar el préstamo.
Thanks to the help from CARECEN, to financing of DC government and ???the will to test all???, the renters can get ???the million 750 thousand dollars that the building cost???. The cooperative has 40 years to pay the loan.
El anterior dueño del inmueble, Mauricio Rosales, les dio 45 días a los inquilinos en 2007 para hacer una oferta por el edificio. Sin embargo, gracias a la astucia y voluntad de los inquilinos, liderados por Sabino Quijano y José Chopin, pudieron conseguir la ayuda necesaria y evitar quedar en la calle.
The previous owner of the building, Mauricio Rosales, gave 45 days to the tenants in 2007 to make an offer for the building. However, thanks to the astuteness and willing of the tenants, led by Sabino Quijano y Jose Chopin, they were able to get the necessary help and prevent being put into the street.
Además, Raúl Rodríguez, analista de vivienda para CARECEN, tuvo un rol protagónico en el asunto, ya que la organización permitió establecer las bases legales e hizo los contactos con el gobierno de la ciudad para ver la posibilidad de darles un crédito blando a los arrendatarios que les permitiese asumir la propiedad. Dos años y medio después de haber dado los primeros pasos en el camino a ser propietarios del edificio en la 3121 de la Mt. Pleasant, el grupo de 80 personas que viven en aquel inmueble ya pueden respirar tranquilos.

Two and a half years after they'd been taken the first steps on the path to own the building at 3121 Mt. Pleasant, the group of 80 people that live in that building can breath easily.
